I’ll wager anyone hasn’t encountered a Sinulog fiesta similar to the other. Every year, Cebu has managed to outstage, outnumber, and even out-WOW the crowd that came to witness a grandeur fete they call SINULOG. Not only can CEBU carouse, revel, and celebrate in STYLE but also Cebu deserves a fair share of merrymaking fit for the average partyphile.
Who else gets to drink to that?
So on Sinulog Friday, Saturday and Sunday, yours truly has been indisposed and purely loving the entirety of it all. It was a hop, skip and sometimes, yes, a jerk from one event to another. I was afraid of missing them all so I went to all of them and wasn’t disappointed. Multi-partying at its finest! Only in SINULOG… Even on Thursday the mood of the city was already festive you cannot help but gaze lovingly at the buntings all over the roads.
Smart/Globe’s system was fucked up that time. Maybe they thought Cebu makes up the entire Philippine island and the entire Visayas was texting/calling at the same time. But vehicular traffic was tolerable – HUMAN TRAFFIC, not! If you circled the entire city Saturday and Sunday night – almost queues go as long as Toledo. Vudu! Loft! Even the ladies room in IT PARK has a QUEUE. Eek!
Yet I loved it! I love that everybody decided to go out that weekend and add up to the more human polluted streets in the city. My friend Mitz hardly goes out and party with me but when she does, it merits a trip with me to Mango boutique and several $$$$ disgrasya hahaha!
Friends from CDO were here, too. My new nonsexual boyfriend, Warren, decided to grace us with his Royal Bitchiness and ranted that although he hated Sinulog, he’d rather spend it with people he like.
Dave set up shop in Caltex as usual on Sunday where we have major access to the Mardi Gras, street party and yes, eye candy men. I decided to be unselfish this year and took photos mostly of the crowd. Yes, central theme: how Sinulog can make you say, “Excuse me,” in several cuss languages just to get rid of people out of the way and how festive can this social event be.
What I learned this year:
1. That this is the time to wear water based lotions because not all Sinulog days are sunny and bright.
2. That Sinulog is another excuse to jack up prices.
3. That huge bags are way to go — bring all your stuff inside you do not want to miss anything just because you went home to go get your flip flops.
4. That local TV stations can manage to find a way to get a shot of you in your most um, unbecoming behavior, teehee.
Oh well, papel, another year, another dear. Till then, toodles.
Photos are here.
